Drawing Machine #6
Wood, metal, brick, rope, pen, paper
150cm H x 60cm W x 15cm D
2023
Inspired by the drawing machine installed in the Children's Room at the LYC Museum & Art Gallery (1971-1982), Drawing Machine #6 is the sixth in a series of prototypes developed using found objects, gravity, and energy transference. Designs for the machine evolved alongside weekly creative sessions with young people at Akeman Community Centre. Following Li Yuan-chia's resourcefulness, the machine is constructed from repurposed materials including a dismantled easel and two floor bricks retrieved from Kettle's Yard during the 2015-18 renovation.
Commissioned by Kettle's Yard for Making New Worlds: Li Yuan-chia and Friends, co-curated by Hammad Nasar,
Sarah Victoria Turner and Amy Tobin.
